Perodua is expecting a strong 2018 in terms of sales, with a 2 per cent jump from the 204,900 units registered in 2017. There’s no doubt about where this positive expectation is from: strong demand for it’s current line-up which includes the new Myvi.

In fact, the 2017 sales performance is better than the initial projection of 202,000 units. That number however, was lower than 2016’s sales performance of 207,100 caused by challenging conditions, intense competition, and strict hire purchase guidelines.

Perodua president and CEO, Datuk Dr. Aminar Rashid says that the expected increase for 2018 is also based on expected Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) number for this year. “Based on our internal calculations, we expect the Total-Industry-Volume to increase to 590,000 units in 2018, which would see our market share sustained at slightly above 35 per cent.”

Since the new Myvi order book was open in November 2017, the company has received over 36,000 bookings, with over 11,000 units delivered.

“We expect more registrations moving forward, as most of our customers who placed orders last year wanted their cars delivered in 2018,” added Aminar.

Perodua is currently working overtime to ensure deliveries are within an acceptable time frame. It is said that the 1.5-litre variants are selling beyond their projection.
