UMW Toyota donates Camry Hybrid to UTM

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has received a donation from UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) in the form of a Toyota Camry Hybrid yesterday, made in conjunction with the Japan Day celebration. The vehicle will be used for technical R&D by researchers and students who are with the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) in UTM.

Under this project, the researcher and students will develop new system for future vehicle technology. MJIIT, UTM is the pioneer and the only research group working in autonomous vehicle research in Malaysia focusing on driving behaviour, advance driver assistance system and self-driving vehicle.

MJIIT, UM plans to become the engineering education hub in ASEAN and be a leading higher education institution in Asia.

Currently, this research is currently done with close collaboration with Smart Mobility Research Centre of the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.

The handover ceremony was attended by Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato' Seri Idris Bin Jusoh, and the Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr. Makio Miyagawa. Also present were top officials from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia led by YBhg Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali, Chairman of UTM’s Board of Directors, YBhg Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar, Vice Chancellor, senior officials from various educational institutions and the top management of UMWT.
