Three latest models from Proton coming very soon

New Persona will be out in August, followed by Saga and Ertiga MPV

Behind all the tiring work that must have existed prior to the launch of the new Perdana, in reality that really is just the tip of the iceberg. And we will get to see what Proton has been keeping up their sleeves very soon.

In a move that has never been done by any car company ever, Proton has confirmed that it will be launching three new models in three successive months. They’re not niche models either; according to Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad and Dato’ Md Radzaif (CEO and Deputy CEO of Proton, respectively) the company will be launching the new Persona in August first.

September will see the arrival of the new Saga, while the Ertiga-equivalent will be launched in October.

The latter is based on the 7-seater Suzuki Ertiga (pic below), a compact MPV very popular in Indonesia and will be the first product resulting from a License Agreement made between the two companies just over a year ago. The latest Ertiga, which we assume is the one to be assembled by Proton, is powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine that produces 91hp and 130Nm. Transmission is either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto.

As for the upcoming Persona, you can expect it to share the same design cues as the new Perdana.

While the current Proton management admits that some previous models were launched before the cars were 100 per cent ready, Dato Fuaad is certain that the three upcoming models – as well as the Perdana – is ripe for launch. In fact, they have been delayed due to reasons that have nothing to do with the product itself.
