The Perdana lives

Available in two engine variant options. Price starts from RM113,438

Proton Perdana 4th gen 1

The fourth generation Proton Perdana was just officially launched an hour ago by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Najib Razak. It was a timely move after production of the D-segment sedan stopped in 2010.

The all-new Perdana is available in two variants based on engine displacement: 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre. Since booking was opened in February 2016 the company has received around 900 orders for the car.

As many may already know, the new Perdana was developed with collaboration of Honda Japan Ltd. The Japanese company provided the platform and powertrain (from the Accord), which allowed the national car maker to accelerate development and maximise cost. Proton added some enhancements too, giving a different handling and comfort level compared to the Accord it is based on.

The 2.0-litre is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve SOHC engine that generates 154hp and 189Nm of torque to the front wheels. The 2.4-litre DOHC, meanwhile, produces 178hp and 222Nm of torque.

“Conveying both class and exclusivity with simple elegance, the aerodynamic bold exterior features, distinctive Proton “wings” front grille, HID projector headlamps, LED rear combi lamps, dual zone air-conditioning, and all round sensors with reverse camera, among others, make the car such a pleasurable drive. Our cabin on the other hand, redefines interior space with its multi-contoured seats and generous legroom and headroom,” Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, CEO of Proton, said during the launch.
