The Mazda Koeru is real and it’s called CX-4

Mazda does a pretty good crossover – the CX-3 is a TG Award-winner, after all. This is its latest, the CX-4. Set to sit between the CX-3 and CX-5 (who’d have guessed) in a three-strong range, the CX-4 will go on sale in June. But here’s the kicker – only in China. Ah.

Based on the Koeru Concept of last year, it’s effectively a slightly squatter CX-5 – the X6 to the CX-5’s BMW X5, perhaps, only considerable more svelte to our eyes. Its curvy body makes the 4 a smidge longer and lower than the 5, but the width and wheelbase remain identical.

Buyers can opt for one of two naturally aspirated petrol engines, either 2.0 or 2.5-litres in capacity. The 2.0-litre is FWD only, while the 2.5 can be had with four-wheel drive. Both engines can be specified with an automatic gearbox.
