Repeats 2007 achievement with the Satria Neo and Persona, and 2014 with Iriz

The Malaysia Design Council has given the Proton Perdana the ‘Malaysia Good Design Mark’ award under the Public Areas and Transportation Products category. Unveiled in June last year, the Perdana was accredited in reference to – according to the press release – ‘a good design in a well-rounded product which was developed or manufactured locally.’

Some of you may have concerns, saying that the Perdana’s design is actually from the Honda Accord. Not true at all, of course; there are plenty of design changes. Even the profile is different, from a typical sedan one to a sportier fastback-ish rear end. In my view at least, it does make the car look better. Especially in red.

Proton has collected the award before with the Satria Neo and previous-gen Persona back in 2007. The same with the Iriz in 2014.

The MGDM is a design recognition programme by the Malaysian government under the Malaysia Design Council. Its establishment is to give recognition to local industries that excel in providing quality and innovative products which encourage the upgrading of production quality through research and development.
