It is so tempting to comment on this before reading the entire story, but let’s look at the latest development first. You see, there is a chance that Geely may just decide to abandon their plan to form a partnership with Proton. This was admitted by the Chinese company chairman himself, Li Shufu, as reported by Bloomberg.

The reason is that ‘the Malaysian carmaker keeps changing its plans’.

“They keep changing, today it’s this, tomorrow it’s that, Li said as quoted by the Bloomberg. “The haven’t decided what they want."

There are two companies which are in the final leg of being chosen as Proton’s strategic partner, France’s PSA Group (owners of Peugeot and Citroen) and Geely. If this development is true, and Geely pulls out, PSA’s bid is in cruise control if everything else falls into place. The firm is also in the process of purchasing Opel from General Motors.

Bloomberg claims that they tried to get in touch with Proton CEO, Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, but he declined to comment on the matter.
