You will soon be able to drive a Porsche Taycan from Singapore to Penang

Porsche Asia Pacific has teamed up with Shell to jointly announce plans for Southeast Asia's first cross-border 'high performance charging (HPC)' network. This network will be made up of 12 DC charging points strategically located in six Shell service stations across the North-South Highway to facilitate full-electric journeys between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang in high-performance EVs such as the Porsche Taycan.

Each station will be equipped with a 180kW DC charging stations with two CCS Type 2 outlets. This allows for a single vehicle to be charged at the full 180kW output, or two vehicles to be charged simultaneously at up to 90kW each. At 180kW, the Porsche Taycan can be charged from zero to 80 percent battery capacity in only 30 minutes, which translates to an additional 390km of range. The charging efficiency is similar to the 175kW high performance chargers available at all Porsche Centres nationwide which will stay in operation for the benefit of Taycan owners in the country.

The ASEAN markets hold strong potential for Porsche to unlock and we see an opportunity to shape electric mobility in the region. Our high-performance network across Singapore and Malaysia will serve as a lighthouse project for other countries to follow

Matthias Becker, Vice President Region Overseas and Emerging Markets of Porsche AG.

Of the six Shell stations that have been earmarked for the HPC charging points, four are expected to be fully outfitted in the second half of 2021 while the remaining two are expected to be ready by mid-2022. These charging stations will join Shell's existing network of 18 50kW fast chargers in Singapore and another 18 'Shell Recharge' and 'Reserve' charging points scattered across Malaysia.

Porsche itself is active on the EV infrastructure front, with its 'Porsche Destination Charging' initiative seeing a growth in charging stations being set up in selected hotels, airports, sports clubs and other lifestyle venues across the region. Once the new stations are launched, Porsche customers get to enjoy the added benefit of special rates at Shell Recharge, the option of reserving a HPC point using a mobile app and preferential prices for food and beverage at Shell Select outlets.

Now that range anxiety is looking like less of a problem, are you ready to finally jump on the electric bandwagon with a brand new Taycan? The Cross Turismo could be worth the wait too...
