Last week we brought you news of Daihatsu’s utterly brilliant kei car concepts for the online-only 2021 Tokyo Auto Salon. Click these blue words if you missed them – we promise you’ll be smiling uncontrollably for the rest of the day.
Now’s the time for Honda to get in on the act too, with this gloriously beige, adventure-ready Jazz.
Known simply as the Crosstar Custom, it’s a more rugged version of the already lifestyley (is that a word?) Jazz Crosstar pictured on the right (or just above if you're reading this on mobile). You’ll have noticed the fantastic steel wheels, the Toyo off-road tyres, the redesigned front bumper and the roof-rack.
Honda says all of this “expresses an urban outdoor style” – whatever that means. We say it just looks supremely cute.
There’s no word on any changes to the internals, so expect front-wheel drive rather than four, combined with the Jazz’s standard e:HEV hybrid system - the same as what powers the Malaysia-spec and still un-priced City 1.5RS hybrid variant.
Fancy an adventure, folks? Sorry, but this particular compact hatch from Honda may just be a pipe dream for us Malaysians. With the debut of the City Hatchback in Thailand last year, there's a chance that we may not get the new Jazz that we saw back at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Still, the news isn't all that bad. Rumour has it there’s more to come from Honda for this year’s Auto Salon too. Watch this space…
