UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd announced that it sold a total of 7,579 vehicles in the month of May 2022, comprising 7,442 Toyotas and 137 units of Lexus vehicles. This is an increase of 633 vehicles compared to April which saw the company selling a total of 6,946 vehicles.

The total sales for the year as at to date May 2022 is registered at 36,972 units (Toyota and Lexus), compared with 34,026 units for year-to-date sales of May 2021. This also shows a growth of about 9% compared to the previous year.

According to Toyota, this is despite the forecast that vehicle sales in Malaysia will be slow for the rest of the year. Based on the global shortage of semiconductors, automobile producers are finding it difficult to increase their production to meet demand.

In addition, the resumption of the sales and services tax (SST) after June 2022 will also put a damper on sales. However, some may want to take advantage of the pricing prior to re-implementation of the SST and this will assist to ramp up sales.

Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor said, “As we rev up for the second half of this year, we at UMW Toyota are truly appreciative and emboldened by the support we have received from our customers."

"It has always been our policy to put our customers first and we are always ready to extend our assistance to the many Toyota fans as we journey out of these uncertain times."
