2021 Mazda CX-9 'Ignite Edition' (CBU) launched in Malaysia - flagship seven-seat SUV priced from RM319,847
The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is now on sale in Malaysia, bringing with it several improvements to distinguish itself from earlier CBU units sold in the country. For 2021, Mazda has opted to 'sportify' things for what it calls the CX-9 'Ignite Edition' by rounding off its wing mirrors, 20-inch wheels and mildly redesigned front grille in a gloss black finish. It's a similar look to the handsome Mazda3 hatch, but tastefully scaled up to the flagship SUV's massive proportions.
Inside, all three rows of seats are daringly wrapped in burgundy-coloured leather while wireless paddle shifters have been added to give the driver an added touch of engagement behind the wheel. Things are also more convenient on the connectivity front as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now be interfaced wirelessly, while a wireless charger helps drivers keep their devices easily juiced on the go.
As the most expensive car sold by local distributor Bermaz Motor, the Mazda CX-9 was a generously-equipped SUV to begin with. Standard features such as a 10-way electric-adjustable driver's seat, full LED lighting with auto headlight leveling, three-zone climate control and a complete i-Activesense suite of driver aids continue to fill the 2021 update's spec sheet. The SkyActiv-G 2.5 Turbo petrol engine soldiers on too. The 228hp/420Nm force-inducted mill is paired with a six-speed auto and can be had in either 2WD or AWD configurations.
Prices for the 2021 Mazda CX-9 'Ignite Edition', which is fully imported from Japan, start from RM319,847 for the 2WD model. The AWD costs about RM16k more at RM336,215. All prices are inclusive of the 50 percent SST waiver that lasts until the end of the year, as well as five years of factory coverage and free maintenance, both capped at 100,000km.
