The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R made a 'surprise' appearance yesterday at Sepang

If you have a bigger appetite for power and performance paired with a much thicker wallet filled with the good stuff, Volkswagen Passengers Car Malaysia (VPCM) has announced the arrival of the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R for the Malaysian market.

The surprise unveiling was conducted together with the official introduction of the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R-Line and Golf GTI CKD models last night at the Sepang International Circuit. Being locally-assembled and not as balls-out powerful as the Golf R, the lower-spec variants are of course priced more competitively from RM155,000.

As for the Golf R, the 2022 model is said to be the most powerful Golf yet thanks to its latest 2.00TSI turbocharged engine that produces a whopping 320PS and 400Nm of torque. Power is sent down to all four wheels via its new 4Motion with Performance Torque Vectoring all-wheel-drive system. Thanks to this, the new Golf R can slay corners like a boss.

Other noteworthy features include the Vehicle Dynamics Manager system, electronic differential locks (XDS), dynamic chassis control (DCC), progressive steering, plus many more. The package also comes with the very premium 10-speaker Harman Kardon 480-watt audio system to really 'turn it up'.

VPCM has stated that it's a limited edition model with each unit priced at RM356,412.85. Customers can choose between three colour options - Lapiz Blue, Deep Black, or Pure White. Bookings are accepted starting now.
