Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS prototype completes Nürburgring test

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS prototype lapped the Nürburgring in 7 minutes 9 seconds

If you ever had the feeling the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is not powerful and fun enough for you (weird), then its upcoming big brother might rattle some boots - the soon-to-be-launched Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS. This baby recently completed all sorts of tests at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit and the lap times are quite impressive, to say the least.

The first-ever 718 prototype to carry the RS badge managed to go around the 'Green Hell' in 7:09.300 minutes and 7:04.511 minutes in the shorter 20.6km lap. This is 23.6 seconds faster than the standard 718 Cayman GT4, which means that the 718 Cayman GT4 RS prototype is one hell of an upgraded beast.

Driven by Porsche's brand ambassador and development driver, Jörg Bergmeister, the prototype is said to have a much lighter construction, enhanced downforce, and of course, more power than the standard 718 Cayman GT4. It was fitted with a racing seat and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres which will be available as options when the car is officially launched.

According to Bergmeister, "The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is an uncompromising driving machine. It feels as nimble as a go-kart on mountain roads, yet is impressively stable and well-balanced on the racetrack. Otherwise, such a lap time wouldn’t even be possible. The GT4 RS is one of the sharpest cars Porsche has ever developed. And you really have had to experience the breathtaking noise it makes for yourself."
