BMW Motorrad has taken the wraps off the new 2023 BMW S1000RR, featuring a more powerful engine, improved aerodynamics, as well as a fresh design among other enhancements.

Design wise, the new edition of the RR benefits from a redesigned front section including new winglets, a new, lighter and sportier-looking rear section, and three new colour schemes which are Blackstorm metallic, Style Passion in Racing Red non-metallic, and the racing-oriented Light white non-metallic.

As with the M1000 RR, winglets on the new S1000 RR now ensure the best possible contact of the front wheel with the road, especially during accelerating.

The chassis is being carried over from before, but the steering head angle has been flattened out by 0.5° and the offset of the triple clamps has been reduced by 3 mm, resulting in better riding precision, increased accuracy, and clearer feedback from the front wheel.

Powering the new RR is still the same 4-cylinder in-line engine as the current S 1000 RR, but the power unit has been tweaked to produce 210 hp at 13,750 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 11,000 rpm, which is 3 hp more than before.

In spite of an increase in peak output, BMW says that the usable engine speed range of the new RR is now significantly broader.

Complementing the power unit are features like the Slide Control function which is a part of the Dynamic Traction Control DTC system. What this feature does is that it allows slippage at the rear wheel when accelerating out of a bend, thus enabling rear wheel drift. In simpler words, this is what we call a "Drift" mode.

Also new is the Brake Slide Assist function. As in the new DTC Slide Control function, this new system is also based on steering angle sensors and allows the rider to set a specific drift angle for so-called braking drifts while sliding into corners at a maintained speed.

Thanks to these two new features, you can either slide into a corner while braking, or slide as you're accelerating while exiting a corner. How cool is that?

Oher standard features include a “Slick” ABS Pro setting, an M lightweight battery, a USB charging port in the rear section, a redesigned rear section, shorter number plate holder, optimised wiring harness for removing the number plate holder, black clutch and generator cover, loss-proof axle bushings and chamfered brake pads, M GPS Mouse Adapter, and a new GoPro holder.
