MotoGP Thailand round officially CANCELLED - Malaysia next?

By sep, 22 July 2021

Well, we can't say that we're surprised with this latest announcement of the Thailand MotoGP 2021 round cancellation, but it still hurts to hear the news, eh? The Thai GP which was set to take place from 15-17 October 2021 has been officially axed from this year's calendar due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and of course, restrictions related to the matter.

The other rounds in Asia like Motegi (Japan) and Phillip Island (Australia) were cancelled prior to the Thai GP announcement, which leaves Malaysia as the only flyaway race in the 2021 calendar. As of now, the 2021 Malaysian GP round is still listed right in between Americas GP (3 October 2021) and Algarve GP (7 November 2021). Will Malaysia be next on the chopping block?

We won't be surprised considering that the number of COVID-19 cases here in Malaysia is showing no signs of improvements whatsoever. In fact, it's getting worse with daily five figures of infected cases and hundreds of deaths reported each day. Yesterday recorded the highest numbers of deaths at 199, and it's probably going to be really hard for the situation to improve within three months before the Malaysian MotoGP round is scheduled to take place.
