Michelin already using 40% sustainable materials in MotoE tyres
Michelin is well on its way towards the goal of making tyres 100% sustainable tyres and products by the year 2050. This fully-sustainable approach is the main goal of Michelin's EMPREINTE project to propose effective solutions for recycling or bio-sourcing materials and eco-designed products. But did you know that their involvement in MotoE (MotoGP's electric series) is already seeing their race tyres using 40% sustainable materials?
Michelin actually partnered with the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup back in 2019 when they started out as the world's first 100% motorcycle race. After two very exciting seasons, they've successfully managed to incorporate around 40% sustainable materials for the rear tyres and 33% for the fronts. That's quite an advancement as they head into the 2021 MotoE season.
How were they able to do so? By integrating carbon black obtained from used tyres into the race slicks via a unique process called Enviro. Michelin is still a long way to go before reaching its goal in 2050, but having watched how well the MotoE tyres performed in the very exciting races, we're confident that Michelin is able to provide the same level of performance together with 100% sustainability.
