Limited Edition Ford Ranger Splash is a Lazada-exclusive truck

By thoriq, 25 October 2019

Buying - or booking, rather – a car via online shopping platform Lazada isn’t a new thing, but a doing the same for a pick up truck is. This week, Ford distributors Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) have teamed up with Lazada to do just that.

With this, the Ford Ranger Splash, though a limited run special, has become the first pick up truck in the country that you can ‘purchase’ online. Just 19 units will be up for grabs during this year's edition of the annual Lazada 11.11 Shopping Festival.

Priced at RM138,888 (Peninsula price, excluding insurance) each, the Ranger Splash special will be available for pre-orders using Lazada’s Chup Dulu reservation function. However, the tricky part wouldn’t be meeting this limited edition Ranger’s price tag, or even the 1% booking fee of RM1,389 to reserve a unit.

Instead, the challenge lies in perfectly timing your pre-orders and online booking payments during the annual sale’s timeline. Firstly, from 28 October to 10 November, shoppers can Chup their Ford Ranger Splash by paying a non-refundable 10% deposit on the booking fee (RM139) via the Lazada app (T&Cs apply).

To secure the booking, buyers will then need to check-out and pay the balance of the booking fee (RM1,250) on 11 November 2019. Once the final booking fee payment is completed, buyers will then be contacted by a Ford representative to complete the purchase of at their preferred Ford showroom.

Additionally, the first 11 buyers who complete their booking process during Chup Dulu will also be rewarded with a RM500 Petronas Gift Card upon successful delivery of their vehicle.

Yes, it sounds like a huge hassle, but the Ranger Splash’s special treatment with its looks and features might be worth the trouble for some.

Available exclusively in black, the Ranger Splash sports special decals, matte black-finished front kangaroo bar, special front grille, side mirror cover, rear bumper, sports bars, alloy wheels and fender flares.

On board, the Ranger Splash is also brimmed with a built-in toll reader (ala LokaTAG), and a 360-degree parking camera feature.

Other standard features present include Ford’s current-gen 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display loaded with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry and ignition, Easy Lift tailgate, as well as LED daytime running lights and HID headlights amongst many others.

Mechanically, the Ranger Splash doesn’t differ from the regular Ranger model it’s based upon, meaning it still harnesses Ford’s new generation 2.0-litre 4cyl turbo-diesel and 10-speed automatic transmission, the former developing 177bhp and a meaty 420Nm of twist.

What do you think? Is this pick up truck special enough to warrant you in going through the intricate pre-ordering process? You can ponder upon said question by viewing more images of the Ford Ranger Splash in the gallery prepared below.
