KMSB to stop Kawasaki distribution starting October
KMSB will no longer be Malaysia's Kawasaki official distributor
KMSB Motors Sdn Bhd [formerly known as Kawasaki Motors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd] has finally announced that they will no longer be the official distributor for Kawasaki bikes starting 1 October 2021.
It seems that Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. Japan (KHI) had several 'key developments' in terms of increasing their equity partnership within Malaysia's national bike manufacturer, Modenas, which started back in April 2019. This, unfortunately for KMSB, also included the product distribution strategy within the Malaysian market.
Most folks assumed that Modenas will only take over Kawasaki's CKD operations here in Malaysia that included assembling bikes up to 650cc, and KMSB leading the way for CBU units. This new announcement, however, showcased that they will be putting all their efforts into revitalising its newly-acquired Japanese two-wheel brand, Suzuki, under Suzuki Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
In terms of warranty claims, aftersales services, and spare parts, KMSB stated that the owners will have to wait for some sort of official announcement from Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries. We're assuming that all responsibilities related to Kawasaki within Malaysia will be taken over by Modenas.
Well, you know what they say, "When one door closes, another one opens".
