Is Alfa Romeo planning a mad, 620bhp Giulia?
Nobody:
Still nobody:
Even less than nobody: the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is really underpowered and could do with loads more power.
Internet: hold my beer.
Yes folks, that protracted intro points to rumours that Alfa Romeo is answering the concerns of literally nobody who has ever driven a Giulia Quadrifoglio, by giving it a whole dose of additional horsepower. Enter, potentially, maybe, perhaps, the Alfa Giulia ‘GTA’.
Rolls off the tongue quite nicely though, doesn’t it? According to moparinsiders.com – who cite ‘sources inside Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ – Alfa wants to pump out a limited edition, low-volume SuperGiulia. One packing 620bhp from its 2.9-litre turbo V6. Six hundred and twenty, people. That’s considerably more than the Quadrifoglio’s 503bhp, which is already very plenty enough thank you very much.
The report goes on to add this revised power output would be mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and is rumoured to be lighter than the ‘standard’ Quadrifoglio; standard of course, being another thing that nobody ever said about the V6 Giulia.
Speaking to TG.com, an Alfa spokesperson wouldn’t confirm or deny the rumours, but let’s all be honest with ourselves here: the prospect of a really bloody powerful Giulia is at least tantalising, if not outright terrifying.
We of course, ran a Giulia Quadrifoglio for quite a long time, and despite a *few* niggles, remain convinced that it’s one of the best cars we’ve ever driven. Glorious thing, truly. But one with more power? Imagine that headline image above, but with another tonne of tyre smoke…
