Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd (HLYM) will be rolling out an updated version of its popular MT-07 middleweight naked bike starting this month. The firm announced the updated model’s availability in a press release issued just this week.

On the surface, the MT-07 gets a mild nip-and-tuck, sporting sharper curves, compact lens-shaped taillight and new air scoops. Two colour scheme options are available starting with the brand’s signature Race Blue (pictured), whilst a second Matt Grey option will be introduced in January 2019.

Of course, looks are just half the story as this revised MT-07 also packs several key updated underneath its skin. Leading the bill here are a set of new and improved front forks and rear monoshock with refined settings promising a better ride.

The most crucial update here is the inclusion of a two-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) to supplement the accompanying hardware – dual 282mm front discs and a 245mm rear disc. This feature was previously absent in the pre-facelift version, thus making this updated offering a lot safer that the model it replaces.

As far as the oily mechanical bits are concerned, there aren’t any changes to report. In other words, the MT-07 still harnesses the same perky CP2 689cc DOHC parallel-twin heart as before, delivering a peppy 73.8hp @ 10,000rpm and 68Nm @ 6,500rpm thanks to its 270-degree crank angle setup.

Of course, with the ABS now included in its package, the MT-07 does see a slight price hike as it now commands a new base price tag of RM38,288 – RM3,755 more than the outgoing model.

By the way, HLYM will also throw in a free “unique stainless steel disc lock” kit with every purchase of this refreshed MT-07 naked.
