Fancy a sportier-looking VW Passat?

By thoriq, 14 October 2020

After previewing it alongside the Tiguan Allspace and Arteon R-Line back in August, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) have officially launched the Passat R-Line offering into its line up today. Aptly, this is the sportier flavour of the refreshed-for-2020 Passat Elegance that we drove not too long ago.

Distinguishing R-Line features include the racier front and rear bumper set, R-line badges and chrome trims, 19-inch Verona alloy wheels design, as well as the cabin’s carbon-styled Nappa leather seat and steering upholstery, sporty aluminium pedals set, as well as the black-finished roofline.

Other key equipment present include VW’s personalised Digital Cockpit, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with selectable and customisable drive modes to suit up to 15 driving styles, 14-way power-adjustable driver seat with memory and massage function, as well as seamless wireless App-Connect Apple CarPlay connectivity.

For those wondering, the sportier styling sadly does not come with added sportier performance. However, considering how respectably well the 2.0-litre TSI 4cyl turbo and 7-spd DCT powertrain package felt in the Passat 2.0 Elegance when we drove it recently, this perhaps isn’t as much of a deal-breaker compared to the asking price this new R-Line offering commands.

With the government’s current SST waiver until Dec 31, the locally assembled (CKD) Passat R-Line commands a RM203,411 price tag instead of RM208,888.

Included in said figures are VPCM’s five-year, unlimited mileage warranty coverage and five-year roadside assistance package

Yep, you’ll need to fork out an additional RM20,000 for this sportier R-Line redux of perhaps one of the best D-segment saloons that's currently on sale. Question is, would you? Check out more images of the new Volkswagen Passat 2.0 R-Line in the gallery prepared below.
