Confirmed: 2020 Mitsubishi Xpander will be assembled in Malaysia

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has confirmed that its upcoming compact seven-seat MPV, the Xpander, will be assembled in Malaysia. However, unlike its other CKD products (ASX and Outlander) which are assembled in Tan Chong Motors Assembly's plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, the Xpander will be put together in Pekan, Pahang.

“The Xpander is localized to meet the demands of Malaysian customers. It will be priced competitively to cater for families and adventure-seekers who are looking for a more comfortable and practical seven-seater to make their journeys a more pleasant one. Malaysians can expect to place their bookings soon,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, CEO of MMM.

Based on the second-generation Nissan Grand Livina which has yet to launch in Malaysia, the Mitsubishi Xpander will likely be powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre MIVEC engine. It wears Mitsubishi's 'Dynamic Shield' corporate face and is equipped with something the Japanese carmaker calls Active Stability Control. More details will be known once the car is launched in Malaysia, but anyone curious to have an early look at the Xpander in person can do so from now until 13 September 2020 at Mid Valley Megamall's Centre Court in the heart of KL.
