2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI & R-Line previewed in Malaysia

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf Mk8 models were previewed to us in the middle of a paddy field?

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) held a special dinner for media members yesterday in Sekinchan, and they decided to throw a curveball in the process by previewing the 2022 Volkswagen Golf Mk8 which comes in two exciting flavours - GTI and R-Line.

These Mk8 Golfs will be a bit different as well considering that they will be locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang. It's a big move as the Golf range has only either been produced or assembled in Germany and China. You can expect these babies to be launched with slightly lowered price tags sometime in the first quarter of 2022.

For the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R-Line CKD model, it'll come with a 1.4-litre TSI engine paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This combo produces a healthy 150PS and 250Nm of torque.

If you want a bit more power, the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI comes ready with a 2.0-litre TSI unit that produces 245PS and 370Nm of torque. The GTI variant is fitted with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission unit. Sorry, no news of the manual.

No specs sheets were given during yesterday's meet-up with VPCM, but rest assured that the CKD Golf models are coming and they'll be officially announced (and launched) within the first quarter of 2022. Anyone interested? We know we are.
