UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) has started selling the 2019 Toyota Avanza facelift beginning today in all authorised showrooms nationwide. Three variants are available, and here are the prices:

- Avanza 1.5E – RM80,888

- Avanza 1.5S – RM83,888

- Avanza 1.5+ - RM87,888

As you can see, the 1.5G and 1.5X variants as available in the previous Avanza are no longer available, the latter replaced by the 1.5S+.

You get four colours to choose from, namely Dark Red Mica Metallic, Silver Mica Metallic, White, and Black Metallic.

The new Avanza comes with body-coloured trim for the new bi-LED headlamps and front foglights. Clearly, you can also see that it now looks much sleeker by use of sharp body creases on top of the seamless character line that stretches from the front lights. You’ll also spot the chrome strip below the door, which does look pretty smart. Other changes include a sharkfin antenna and side mirrors with powered adjustments which also folds inside at the push of a button (latter feature only for the 1.5S and 1.5S+). A reshape of the side mirror casing delivers a smaller area where negative air pressure is generated, thus lowering wind noise.

The rear comes with a spoiler combined with high-mounted LED third brake light, while the wipers now have an intermittent setting. Every variant sports 15-inch alloys, with two designs.

Inside, the dashboard is in 2-tones of colour while the seats are wrapped in fabric with red accents. A digital air-conditioning unit with Clean Air Filter is standard, the same for the 6.75-inch entertainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The number of charging USB ports is two.

As for safety, the list of features include Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert which are both standard items. The 1.5S variant also get a reverse camera, which is optional in the 1.5E.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre 4-cyl engine that makes 105ps and 136Nm. This in turn goes to the 4-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota claims to have increased the cabin comfort with lower NVH noise from increased use of sound insulation. There’s also a marginal NVH improvement by about 1.5dB by using the OE tyres.

Need more? The 1.5S+ gets a DVR recorder (standard) and the option to spec an 8-inch roof-mounted colour monitor which folds neatly when not in use.
