The Outlander family is now entirely made-in-Malaysia after Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) announced the availability of the CKD 2.4-litre variant. The 2.0-litre was first to be locally-assembled a few months back.
There are some changes over the previous imported Outlander, although the engine obviously still pushes out 167ps and 222Nm to all four wheels via the company’s INVESCS-III CVT transmission. The multi-select 4WD system offers three selectable modes of 4WD Eco, 4WD Auto, and 4WD Lock.
The new CKD Outlander similarly retains a sunroof, but sports a new two-tone 18-inch wheel design as well as a new rear spoiler. The front gets full LED headlights and LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, plus powered tailgate with anti-pinch function.
The main safety features listed include seven airbags, Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), Hill Start Assist, and Isofix points. There’s also the Rest Reminder function to remind the driver to take a break before fatigue sets in.
The Outlander also comes with a Digital Video Recorder (DVR), and security-solar tint.
Inside, the infotainment’s 7-inch touchscreen allows for CarPlay functionality, together with Air Gesture Control.
The new locally-assembled Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4-litre is sold at RM155,000, making it around RM17,000 less than the CBU model. For the time being, MMM is having a special promotion to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year with a price reduction of RM4,000. Every purchase comes with a two-year free maintenance package and five-year/unlimited mileage factory warranty.
