Bell & Ross's Renault F1 watch proves square can be sporty

By topgear, 28 June 2019

To many casual admirers of luxury watches, French manufacturer Bell & Ross is synonymous with square cases. In that respect, the BR V3-94 R.S.19 featured recently may not be sufficiently eye-catching; its classic circular case being part of the brand's vintage collection. This is something the watchmaker is aware of, which is why brand loyalists and fans of the Renault F1 team are given an alternative in the form of the BR 03-94 R.S.19.

The biggest difference here is obviously the utilitarian 42mm case used by Bell & Ross's instrument watches. Everything else beneath the 03-94's polished steel construction remains the same as its V3-94 counterpart, not that it's a bad thing; a BR-Cal.301 automatic mechanical movement, chronograph with 30-minute counter, SuperLuminova-filled numerals and hands and non-reflective sapphire crystal are all part of the package.

You can't have a watch celebrating Renault F1 without a few racy twists. In the BR 03-94 R.S.19, this is communicated in the form of a carbon fiber dial that's colour-coded to match the cockpit and steering wheel of a Renault F1 car. To heighten the sense of occasion, Bell & Ross will only be producing 999 pieces of the BR 03-94 R.S.19 globally, priced at RM27,100 in Malaysia. Unlike the BR V3-94 R.S.19, there is no pricier option with a steel bracelet; a perforated rubber strap is your only option. Not that we'd complain.
