Five must-sees at My Auto Fest

First time held, so maybe it doesn’t look as glamourous as ‘the other’ motor show, but you can buy the cars here

1 Honda Civic

There are quite a few solid reasons to visit the inaugural My Auto Fest held at the Mines Convention Centre that will end tomorrow (urgh!). Here are five:

All-new Honda Civic

You’ve read our first impressions of it here, but here’s your chance to see it in the metal – in Malaysian-spec – for the first time. Booking has already started so if you are already planning to buy one, here you go.

All-new Proton Perdana

2 Proton Perdana

Wouldn’t you know it; it’s located right next to the new Civic. Unfortunately, the Proton is draped with a magical cloth that hides the car, save for two corners Proton insists will tease us prior to launch supposedly coming soon. Never mind all the ‘spy shots’ online, then.

Still, you get to size it up in, errr… size, and its profile.

Toyota Sienta

3 Toyota Sienta

The Sienta is a 7-seater MPV, positioned above the equally 7-passenger capacity Avanza but below the Innova. Indeed, it looks better than both with a more contemporary and urban design.

The Sienta has potential in our books provided the spec-list in the show car here is delivered: powered sliding doors, rear air-cond vents, 7-inch touchscreen with rear TFT entertainment display.

Launch? Just like how the Sienta’s presence at My Auto Fest was very much a surprise, there is no indication from UMW Toyota of its official launch date. Stay tuned.

Hyundai Ioniq

4 Ioniq

Disclaimer: The Hyundai Ioniq is not about to be introduced anytime soon.

Not surprising of course, since just like most next-gen hybrids out in the real world the Hyundai will not really fit into our market. Two of the three powertrains available – Electric and Plug-in, the third being a Hybrid – simply needs a proper infrastructure to be enticing enough. Let’s not even begin with fiscal incentives.

The car Hyundai Sime Darby brought to My Auto Fest is of the Hybrid variant. The 1.6 GDi engine produces 104hp and 147Nm with the electric motor pushing out additional 43hp and 170Nm. The transmission is a 6-speed DCT.

Volkswagen Vento

5 VW Vento

This one is obviously for purchase, as we wrote about here. This is your chance to get up close with the newly named Polo Sedan. There’s a RM2,000 discount for early bird buyers too. We’re quite eager to know how much inroad has Volkswagen done to improve the reliability of their 1.2 TSI engine+7-speed DSG package. He who dares, wins?
