Item to be reviewed: mandatory use of child car seat

It seems that the previous requirement for the use of child car safety seats beginning January 2019 is also under review. Transport minister, Anthony Loke was quoted by MalayMail, “As of now, it was only announced by the previous government. We are not tied to what was previously announced as we are now a new government.”

Instead, the focus is now on the low usage of rear seatbelts. “We need to look at the practicality before we can implement and enforce it,” he added, referring to both the issue of rear seatbelts and child safety seats.

Perhaps the good minister does not know that rear seatbelts offer very little safety for children, in fact it may even be more dangerous for them. Hence why child safety seats are needed.
